Aquinas and Why the New Atheists are Right

Fr. Robert Barron’s talk at the University of St. Thomas (MN) on April 9, 2015. The talk was sponsored by the Classical Theism Project, led by Dr. Gloria Frost and Dr. Timothy Pawl. It was a project of the Philosophy Department of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of St. Thomas, generously funded by the John Templeton Foundation.

The “new atheists” have emerged as strident critics of religion. More often than not, though, Christians agree with them, for the God they deny is one that we would deny as well. Fr. Barron explores this curious situation with the help of St. Thomas Aquinas. He looks especially at Thomas’ treatment of the non-competitive relationship between God and the world.
