The neuroscientist Richard Davidson is one of the central people who’s helped us begin to see inside our brains and inside the rich interplay between things we saw as separate not that long ago: body, mind, spirit, emotion, behavior, genetics. California’s Orange County Department of Education has been pursuing this in a visionary way and invited me to be in conversation with Richard Davidson at a gathering of their staff.

We explore what he is learning about deepening generative qualities of character in lives and in classrooms—qualities like kindness and practical love.
