Artificial Hype?

Gary Marcus, the director of NYU’s Infant Language Learning Center and a professor of psychology, thinks you should be skeptical of the current potential for artificial intelligence.

In this interview, Marcus talks about how media often exaggerates and overhypes the latest discoveries in AI.  He also offers questions to consider about the claims: Is there a demo available? How narrow was the task the computer performed?

He also suggests that a more robust approach to artificial intelligence involves solving problems in generalized situations rather than just laboratory demonstrations.
